Week 1 - The Beginning

Reflections and inspiration..... or inspired reflections .....
I must admit that on the surface, the very idea of teaching ICT seems so foreign to me. Something I saw delegated to the computer nerd in the white room with all those boring looking machines. I envisioned my job as a teacher as one in which creativity would be embraced and encouraged and the imaginations of the young minds in my room, roused by the interesting ideas and challenges brought to them. I saw my room filled with the tangible elements of paper and pens, textas and paints - tactile materials I could draw upon... but computers??????

Things are changing... the way of teaching is changing. Ideas are expanding and with it, so must I. I've discovered a new buzz word at uni -Technology? And yes, I'm a tad concerned. I mean, what do I really know? Do I know enough about it to fake my way through? It seems overwhelming and yet, if I stop to think, for just a minute... then perhaps I know more than I give myself credit for ... I mean, I feel quite adept at checking my facebook account and sending emails, and I have even learnt the magic of powerpoint presentations and the ease of putting them together. In fact, here I am talking on my very own blog and I must admit, it feels quite modern ;D and easy. I love that we are being inspired to create with ICT and that it can be fun, when the very word fun, had for me always precluded a process of computers and technology.

Today we learnt about a program entitled 'Inspiration.' See the healthy food chart I created above? (Now if I can just work out how to bring the image down to the bottom we will be in business). How fun to play and learn at the same time. How can I not feel inspired... and confident ... and competent in my ability to bring this same creativity to the students and the classes who will share my world...

Technology ... bring it on...
